Rebekah Crockett
"Miss Rebekah"
Certified Orton-Gillingham & Dyslexia Specialist
Hello, I am Rebekah Crockett and am very excited to help students reach new heights in their reading and spelling skills here at Dyslexic Einstein! As I reflect on my childhood and the formative experiences that shaped who I am today, one activity stands out: reading. It was, without a doubt, one of my favorite pastimes and a significant source of learning that has impacted my life profoundly. In elementary school, I had a peer in my class that struggled with speech and reading significantly. I truly believe that watching the struggles that she went through was a defining moment for me as a person. At a very young age, I was taught how to be a kinder and more understanding person to individuals who have learning differences and special needs.
I am a proud graduate of the University of Memphis, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. My passion for education and mental health led me to further my studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I completed my Master's degree in Counseling. Over the past 11 years, I have cultivated a diverse range of experiences in the educational field, equipping me with the skills and insights necessary to make a positive impact on my students.

My journey in the field of education has been diverse and enriching, ranging from prescriptive tutoring and pre-school teaching to operations management for a private school and online tutoring for small groups and individuals. Each of these roles has not only deepened my understanding of effective teaching methods but also fueled my commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.

As a preschool teacher and reading tutor, I have built a solid foundation in teaching children how to read using prescriptive learning techniques. This experience has equipped me with the tools to tailor my teaching strategies to meet the needs of each child, ensuring that they feel confident and capable. Working with young learners has taught me the importance of patience, encouragement, and adaptability — qualities that I consider essential in every educational setting.

Throughout my educational field experience, I have had the privilege of working with children who have diverse learning differences, including Dyslexia, Autism, speech and language delays, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other unique challenges that often cannot be easily defined. These experiences have granted me insight into the varied ways that children learn and process information, reinforcing my belief that every child has the potential to thrive in an environment that recognizes and embraces their individuality. Currently, I am completing a practicum for an associate level practitioner certification with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. This coursework has not only deepened my understanding of the principles of this effective approach but has also equipped me with practical tools to support students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
I believe that the integration of the Orton-Gillingham approach into my reading lessons will foster individual growth and help students build their confidence as they become more proficient readers. My goal is to create an engaging learning environment where each student feels valued and empowered to achieve their reading goals. It is such an honor to have this incredible opportunity to work with students here at Dyslexic Einstein! I look forward to meeting with you soon and making a positive impact together!
